Costume - England - Robinson, James - Souvenir of the Bal Costumé : given by Her Most Gracious Majesty Queen Victoria, at Buckingham Palace, May 12, 1842 / the drawings from the original dresses by Mr. Coke Smyth ; the descriptive letterpress by J.R. Planché London, P. and D. Colnaghi, 1843. In 2nd, 550 x 375 mm. With 56 hand-colored lithographic prints of costumed characters, including 54 depicting the principal characters and 2 additional plates depicting variegated studies of Prince Albert and the Duchess of Buccleuch, the figures are printed within gold-decorated borders, chromolithographed dedication sheet to Queen Victoria, signed "H. Johnston fecit" and printed in color by C. Graf, text printed in blue ink, the plates are accompanied by white guard sheets and descriptive character sheets, SPLENDID RED MAROCCHIN LONG BINDING, stamped on the plates with the gold crest of John Frederick Earl Cawdor (November 8, 1790 - November 7, 1860), gold frames to the plates, seven-compartment spine with fine gold decoration and title, some light scuffing and peeling.
