ENSEMBLE DE FRAGMENTS DE MANUSCRITS

A set of manuscript fragments in a cardboard box. Some are single sheets, typical of the sub-Saharan codicological tradition; others are in the form of two-sheets on watermarked paper, close to North African practice. The texts, copied according to different layouts and with different varieties of maghribi, use sepia and colored inks. Three groups of substantial leaves belonging to devotional and linguistic manuscripts, including Ibn 'Azzoum's Tanbîh al-Anâm (d. 960/1553) and a commentary (sharh) on Ibn Malik's famous rhyming text of Arabic grammar, the Alfiyya. Other isolated leaves for talismanic use. 19.5 x 14.5 cm to 28 x 19.5 cm Private collection of a former French Ponts et Chaussées engineer, who carried out salvage work on certain buildings in Mauritania and southern Morocco. These sheets were given to him as a gift during this period.
