DESCRIPTION DU PROPHÈTE SUR PANNEAU EN BOIS (HILIYE)

TURKEY, OTTOMAN ART, SIGNED BY MOHAMMAD AL-DAGH(?) AND DATED: 1118 H./1704-05 Ink, pigments and gold on paper mounted on wood, with a scalloped upper section, decorated with a polychrome, gilded and illuminated poly-lobed dome. The panel's header features the bismillah in muhaqqaq, the central register calligraphed in naskh, of 'Ali's description of the Prophet, the text vocalized and framed in gilded clouds, punctuated with gold rosettes. The names of the four Caliphs, on a polychrome flower pattern in the corners, below, a cartouche inscribed in thuluth and a large register inscribed in naskh giving the name of the calligrapher and the date. Two side cartouches, illuminated in gold and polychrome. Soiling, wear and missing decoration. Height: 69.5 cm. Width: 29.5 cm.
