RAOH SCHORR (Muttenz, Switzerland, 1901-1991). "Calf". Bronze figure with green patina. Signed on one side. Measurements: 18 x 24 x 8 cm. Raoh Schorr studied at the Hoffmanschule in Munich and later in Paris in 1923. In the French capital he knew the main painters of the School of Paris. He assisted Jean Dufy with fabric designs and designed dresses for the couturier Robert Piguet. After gaining a reputation as a decorative animal sculptor, he moved to London in 1936, where he had a solo exhibition in 1937 at the Redfern Gallery. He acquired a bronze, Bengal Tiger, from the Tate Gallery and was commissioned by Royal Doulton to design ceramic animals. He exhibited bronzes for many years at RA. A certificate of appraisal is enclosed. Size: 56 x 74 cm Restoration The son of the famous painter and engraver Léopold Flameng, François Flameng learned painting from his father, entering the École des Beaux-Arts de Paris in Alexandre Cabanel's studio, then those of Pierre Edmond Alexandre Hédouin and Jean-Paul Laurens. In 1875, he made his debut at the Salon des artistes français with his painting Le Lutrin. Appreciated by Tsar Alexander III, who bought him the painting entitled "Baignade desames de la cour au XVIIIe siècle", he was invited to Gatchina in Russia in 1894 to paint a series of portraits of aristocratic personalities and the imperial court. In 1900, he created the Paris decorative panel for the main dining room of the Le Train bleu restaurant at the Gare de Lyon in Paris. François Flameng was appointed professor at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris in 1905, where he had many students. He became a member of the Académie des Beaux-Arts that same year, replacing William Bouguereau.

Inscribed as such and signed by Berque in the imprint. - Jean Berque (1896-1954) was a pupil of the Nabis greats Félix Vallotton, Maurice Denis and Paul Sérusier. - A few isolated brown spots. Overall very good copy with the atmospherically coloured and graceful illustrations.
