MARK LAITA (Detroit, 1960). "Police officer/Hang", 2005/1999. Two digital photographs. Diptych, ed. 1/3. Signed, titled and dated on the back. Stamped on the back. Published work. Sizes: 145 x 116 cm; 162 x 130 cm (frame), each. Mark Laita is a wonderful American photographer who, after several years devoted to commercial photography, has in recent years presented a series of books of his personal work. Of these, I have selected a sample of two of the most interesting: "Created Equal", from 2010 and "Serpentine", from this year. He has produced award-winning commercial work for clients such as Adidas, Apple and Mercedes-Benz. Laita's first book of non-commercial work, Created Equal, is the result of an eight-year cross-country project featuring 8×10 black-and-white portraits of Americans from a wide range of cultures, occupations and backgrounds. Her work has been exhibited in galleries in the United States and Europe.
