Artist info: Austrian lithographer, genre a. portrait painter. Portrait painter (1824 Vienna - 1899 Vienna), first drawing lessons with his grandfather Josef Klieber, early studies at the Vienna academy with Gsellhofer, supported by Danhauser and Fendi, 1848 awarded the "Füger'schen Kompositionspreis", temporarily in the studio of Ranftl, here contact with Prince Alexander von Schönburg, in whose house he gives drawing lessons and through whom he is introduced to distinguished circles as a portrait painter, from 1852 sponsored by Count Chambord, active in Graefenberg and Freiwaldau as a portraitist for the fine spa society, 1851 in Kiev, 1855 in Venice, Reggio a. Piacenza, here portrait commissions from the court of Modena and Parma, 1860-61 in Paris, then at the invitation of the Serbian court in Belgrade, 1864 in Spain and Africa, undertook further study trips, active in Vienna, source: Thieme-Becker and Internet.
