Potschappel Bolognese Dog following the Meissen model, designed by Johann Joachim Kändler in 1733, executed by Carl Thieme Dresden, underglaze blue stamp mark from 1901, naturalistic moulding with polychrome overglaze painting and partial gold decoration, the dog sitting on its hind legs and looking sideways with open mouth, the shaggy fur and collar worked in high relief, the base of the tail cracked by firing, otherwise in good condition for its age, h 29 cm. Wilhelm Rudolph, Stehender Frauenakt seitlicher Blick auf eine unbekleidete junge Frau, woodcut reworked with watercolour, mid-20th century, signed "W. Rudolph" in pencil on the lower right and inscribed "Handdruck" on the left, paper surface somewhat rough and minimally water-stained due to the technique, slight crease in the lower area, sheet measures approx. 46 x 29 cm. Artist information: actually Friedrich Wilhelm Rudolph, German painter, draughtsman and woodcutter. Painter, draughtsman and woodcutter (1889 Chemnitz - 1982 Dresden), 1903-07 apprenticeship and work as textile pattern draughtsman and later lithographer in Chemnitz, 1907-14 studied at the academy in Dresden, 1911 travelled through Italy, 1914-18 military service, 1918-20 studied again at the academy in Dresden under Robert Sterl and master student of Carl Bantzer, 1920-32 freelance in Dresden, from 1924 member of the Dresden Artists' Association and the "Rote Gruppe", participation in exhibitions 1924-25 at the Galerie Emil Richter, Dresden and the Galerie Goldschmidt & Wallerstein, Berlin as well as in 1931 at the Galerie "Neue Kunst Fides" Dresden made him famous and led to his appointment as professor at the Dresden Academy in 1932, defamed as "degenerate" in 1933, from approx. 1937 de facto banned from exhibiting and selling and dismissed as professor at the Dresden Academy in 1938 for political reasons, 1945 destruction of almost his entire artistic oeuvre during the air raid on Dresden, 1946-49 again professor at the Dresden Academy of Fine Arts, subsequently freelance, member of the Deutscher Künstlerbund Weimar, important representative of the "Dresden School", received numerous honours, including the National Prize in 1961 and 1980. including the National Prize of the GDR in 1961 and 1980, honorary citizenship of Dresden in 1979 and honorary citizen of Chemnitz in 1982, active in Dresden, source: Thieme-Becker, Vollmer, Dressler, Eisold "Künstler in der DDR", student lists of the Dresden Academy and Internet.
