A Paris, chez David, graveur, 1780-1797. 11 vol. in-4, period fawn raciné calf, spine with 5 nerves, red or fawn title-piece and green or brown tomaison, caissons decorated with small gilded irons, gilded roulette on the boards, coupes and chasses, marbled edges (ordinary rubbing, dull corners and head-pieces, epidermis on q. boards, small marginal defects, q. browned plates, foxing affecting q. plates). A fine copy of this famous series by the engraver F.-A. David (c. 1748-1824), with text by Sylvain Maréchal. The illustration comprises 828 engraved plates, including 11 titles and 7 faux-titres. A total of 810 illustration plates featuring over 1,300 figures based on paintings, sculptures, decorations and furniture from Antiquity. Twenty or so "priapic" plates are found at the end of volume 7. Brunet mentions a 12th and final volume published in 1803, which does not appear in this copy. (Brunet II, 536).

Complete with 3 engraved frontispiece titles and 48 engraved hors-texte figures. Color folding plate illustrated by Coidé bound in at the beginning. Some very minor rubbing, corners very slightly worn, foxing affecting almost exclusively the text, otherwise a fine copy.

Preceded by the Speech of Boulay, de la Meurthe, before the reading of the constitutional act. Paris, David, an VIII [1800]. In-16 tan calf, smooth ornate spine, green mar. title page, gilt garland framing the boards, gilt edges (period binding). 7 beautiful copper-engraved figures by DAVID. Manuscript bookplate and wetstamp of the library of the Château de L'Isle-de-Noé, signed by the Comte de Noé, most probably Louis-Pantaléon de Noé (1728-1816), owner of a plantation and slaves in Saint-Domingue (he is said to have freed Toussaint-Louverture, with whom he maintained regular relations). A fine copy with an interesting provenance for this rare little illustrated Constitution (Cohen 252.)

Paris, Piranesi, Leblanc, 1804-1806. 6 volumes in 3 volumes, large in-4, cherry half-calf with small corners, finely ornamented spine with gilt title and tomaison on embossed piece, gilt fillet on boards (period binding). Some minor rubbing. The first three volumes devoted to the paintings and frescoes of Herculaneum, the 4th to bronze busts and bas-reliefs, the 5th to bronze statues and the last to lamps and candelabras. Illustrated with 305 (of 308) beautiful engraved plates (48+45+60+48+54+50), including an engraved folding map. Without plates 13, 20, 21 in volume II. Slight scattered foxing. A very fine copy in a fine contemporary binding.

A Gnide et se trouve à Paris, Briand, [1789]. 2 parts in one vol. in-12 brown marbled calf, smooth spine gilt filleted with small gilt fleurons, title page (period binding). Headbands worn, corners worn. 2 engraved frontispieces. Rare first edition of this work by Sylvain Maréchal (1750-1803), writer, poet and pamphleteer, republican activist, fervent atheist, organizer of fêtes de l'Etre suprême, of the cult of the goddess Reason; some of his works are rare or impossible to find (as they were condemned to the fire by Parliament).
