Schmied's original illustrations for the 1931 edition.

In-4 gray morocco, smooth spine, bands of garnet-red morocco on covers, including a current one on the spine with the author's name in gilt lettering and a vertical band in the center of the first cover bearing the title in mosaic letters of black morocco on a background of semis of gilt dots, garnet-red morocco linings framed in gilt fillet, garnet-red moire endpapers, gilt tr., in gray half-maroquin folder and slipcase, covers and spine preserved (Ad. Lavaux). Spine of dust jacket slightly oiled and rubbed. Schmied's illustrations include a cover, 49 woodcuts in color, 5 of which are full-page, 25 headbands and tailpieces and 19 large ornate letters, most of them enhanced with silver. Schmied's first important book, with a highly refined and elegant layout and typography. Color discharges on facing pages as usual. Edition of 140 copies; no. 116 with Schmied's signature on the flyleaf. Ex-libris Georges Gonot. A superb copy.
