Probablement ALLEMAGNE, HANAU, vers 1790-1800 Oval snuffbox in yellow (750) gold, decorated on all sides with translucent midnight-blue enamel on radiating (lid and reverse), rice-grain (lid ribbons) or wavy (profile reserves) grounds, and opaque white for the fillets and four pilasters (profile) with flowering urns. Hinged lid. Punch marks. On the rabbet, small worn circular hallmark, resembling that of the city of SAINT-PETERSBOURG for 1818-1864. Repunched in FRANCE with the E.T. used between 1864 and 1893 for foreign manufacture. Gross weight: 70.9 g. - 22 x 70.5 x 50.5 mm. Wear, scratches, a few dents and missing enamels; mastic deposits (?) from restoration (?) on the white thread at the bottom of the snuffbox profile.
