Charles II (1504-1553) Gold shield - MIR 383e (indicated R/8) AU (g 3.39) RRR The initials T BRVNAS indicate the mint of Turin and the mintmaster Bartolomeo Brunasso. This indication of the almost complete name of the mintmaster is of particular interest because usually mintmasters were indicated only by the initials of their first and last names. Two specimens with this variety are mentioned in the MIR dating from 2002 (Varesi FERT auction) and 2005 (NAC auction). - SPL+

Charles II (1504-1553) Gold Shield with Horse I Type - MIR 383c (R8) AU (g 3.16) RRR Of extreme rarity, ex Gadoury auction 2021. Scratch on D/. In this gold shield appear, after the initials T of the Turin mint, the initials of the mintmaster Bartolomeo Brunasso, who documents indicate was in office from 1519 to 1535. It is very likely that these gold shields were minted towards the end of that period since the gold shield was beginning to become established in Italy from the 1530s. - BB
