CHILD JESUS SAVIOR OF THE WORLD Indo-Portuguese ivory sculpture, 17th century, partially polychrome decoration. Silver crown, without marks, in accordance with Decree-Law no. 120/2017. Comes with a silk dress with lace. Sitting on a carved and gilded wooden pedestal. The boy lacks cross of the World and golden hair on the back. Dress and gown with flaws and defects. Dim. Spanish school of the 18th century. "Infant Jesus, Savior of the World". Oil on copper. Measurements: 18 x 14 cm; 22 x 18 cm (frame). This oil on copper represents the Child Jesus as "Salvator Mundi", an iconography that alludes to the Christological concept of Jesus Christ as universal savior, in relation to his role as judge in the Final Judgment and his character of Redeemer. It is characterized by presenting Christ holding with one hand an orb (sometimes topped by a cross) while with the other hand he usually makes the sign of blessing (in this case, as he sleeps, he rests on the sphere).
