Pavel Sokolov-Skalya (1899-1961), a large watercolor on paper painting depicting Ilya Muromets in the dungeon and Prince Vladimir. The painting was made for an illustrated edition of "Byliny" published in 1955 by Goslitizdat. Signed and dated 1947 lower left. Has a label on the verso. Dimensions: 27 x 19 3/4 in., (68 x 49.5 cm.) The paper is wrinkled around the edges. Has several holes from nails. Visible tears around the edges. No signs of restoration.
