Description

"Hommage à Picasso" Decorative Bust in tinted and blown Murano Glass, Walter Furlan (Venice, 1931), perfect condition Measurements 43 x 42 x 36 cm. Walter Furlan was born in 1931 in Chioggia, Venice. He soon began as an apprentice to one of the island's most famous glass masters, Romano Tosi, better known as Mamaracio. Towards the end of the Second World War, between 1940 and 1945, he worked at the Gino Cenedese kiln, where he met Alfredo Barbini along with the former Vamsa masters. During this period, Furlan learned the particular technique called massello, that is, he learned to shape a quantity of glass that was not blown and was therefore quite difficult to manipulate. In 1963, he exhibited his artwork at the Official Glass Exhibition of the Island of Murano, sponsored by the Venetian Institute for Work, and later at the Exhibition of Arts and Crafts in Reggio, Calabria. In the early 1970s, Furlan collaborated with master Angelo Seguso and designer Mario Pisoni at the Seguso Art Glass factory. Furlan's works are found in major private collections and museums around the world.
