FRENCH SCHOOL of the late eighteenth century Equestrian portrait of "Vicomte Joseph de Juillac Vignoles" "Régiment de Royal Champagne Cavalerie 1785". Oil on canvas, inscribed lower right REGIMENT DE ROYAL CHAMPAGNE / CAVALERIE 1780 79 x 61 cm (old restorations, small lacks of material) early 19th century stuccoed and gilded wood frame Joseph Angélique de Picquet de Vignolles de Juillac (1764-1823), was admitted to the Collège Royal de La Flèche, then became a cavalry officer (Armorial général des d'Hozier ou Registre de la noblesse de France, registre septième, deuxième partie, p.57-58). Appointed second lieutenant in 1783, he resigned in 1788. The blue uniform and horse saddle are those of the Royal Champagne.
