"On June 8, 1929, the Union pour la Vérité in Paris organized a public debate on the Conquerors. Speakers included MM. Brunswick, Julien Benda, Gabriel Marcel, Emmanuel Berl, Pierre Hamp, Alfred Fabre-Luce, Jean Guéhenno and André Malraux. Also present: André Gide, Roger Martin du Gard, André Chamson. André Malraux began by setting the scene for the controversy. It is this speech that we are publishing."
