19TH CENTURY SNAIL CAMEO RING The ring is set with a three-layer sardonyx cameo representing a snail set in rose-cut diamonds. Set in 18K yellow gold and silver. Gross weight: 1.97 gr. Tray size: approx. 1.7 x 1 cm. Finger size: 50. Antique escutcheon case. IN PRAISE OF LAZINESS The snail, Jean de La Fontaine's symbol of slowness, is also a symbol of laziness. Is laziness a mortal sin? Considering another axis of symbolism, the snail represented rebirth and the immortality of the soul for the early Christians.
