Founded in 1880 by Dutch designer Jean-Henri Jansen (1854-1928), its aesthetics were based on French furniture combined with aesthetic influences from around the world. His most sought-after pieces reflected the influence of antique designs from the Louis XIV, Louis XVI, Directory and Empire eras, as well as objects Jansen found during his travels to Japan and Turkey.
