Aussergewöhnliche Pariser Turmuhr Height: 48 cm. Width: 37 cm. Depth: 20 cm. Signed "Mayer / Paris" next to the round embossed mark. Paris, around 1880. Design in the spirit of chivalric romanticism in gilt bronze with painted enamel inlays. Above the transverse, curved and open-worked base on volute feet rises a recessed, laterally rounded tower structure with an oval dome with a crowning belfry. On the sloping sides between ornamented columns are armored knight figures with flags. Below them, fully sculpted knightly war trophies such as helmets, lances, maces and shields. Tower front set with an enameled clock face, surrounded by painted porcelain fields. Numerals painted in Gothic minuscules on oval cartouches, the central field depicting a knight with a squire. At the front of the base another enamel picture with portraits of a ruling couple. Probably 14-day movement, pendulum on steel spring suspension. Lock plate striking mechanism with half and hour strike on a gong mounted on the inner base and with hammers on the bell in the roof structure. Not tested, pendulum unhinged; key and decorative parts present and enclosed. (1401095) (11)
