INAUGURATION OF THE CATHEDRAL OF THE ASCENSION IN THE CITY OF CURTEA DE ARGES Oil on canvas. Doubled. 53 x 92 cm. The consecration of the cathedral in the town of Curtea de Arges (Romania) in 1517 in the presence of its builder, the Prince of Wallachia, Neagoe Basarab (born around 1481, reigned 1512-1521) and his wife Doamna Milita Despina (around 1485-1554). The church is one of the most important architectural monuments in Wallachia. A fresco with the donor couple served as a model for the design of the figures in their rich robes, the prince on the left and the princess on the right, who is distributing a jewelry box. The gesture symbolizes the personal financial support for the new cathedral. Minimal rest. (1401511) (13)
