Description

Karl Stuhlmüller, 1859 München – 1930 Etzenhausen CATTLE MARKET IN FRONT OF A VILLAGE CHURCH IN LOWER BAVARIA Oil on cardboard. 35 x 57 cm. Signed and inscribed "München" lower right. Old sticker with artist's signature and title inscription "Markt" on verso. In an accentuated horizontal format, the painter depicts a market in front of a church with a ridge turret and onion dome, surrounded by buildings. In the background is a range of hills, in the center of the picture a cart, behind it two shielded horses. At the back left, a gathering of farmers and traders with livestock. Although the building is very similar to the small Frauenkirche in the market town of Beilngries (Altmühl), it can be assumed that the painter - as in several of his paintings - used pictorial elements in the studio in a piecemeal fashion. His scenes are always authentically vivid and have a realistic lighting atmosphere. (14010233) (11)
