Hugo Wilhelm Kauffmann, 1844 – 1915

THE WOUNDED RUSSIAN SOLDIER IN THE PARLOR Oil on mahogany. 25.5 x 33 cm. Signed lower left. The important painter of the Munich School studied under Jakob v. Steinle, among others. Trained in Paris, then worked in Munich. He devoted himself predominantly to the rural genre, mostly with interior scenes. His narrative, often humorous motifs document characteristic situations of the time from a psychological perspective. In this picture, a bearded Russian soldier - probably at the beginning of the First World War - points to his wounded leg while the figures in the dining room listen attentively. Literature: Cf.
