YOUNG LADY WITH JAPANESE UMBRELLA Oil on canvas, on cardboard. Doubled. 55 x 43 cm. Signed lower left. An impressive close-up portrait of a young woman in a kimono, looking sternly at the viewer. A colorful Japanese umbrella rests over her right shoulder. The natural light penetrates through the umbrella and creates masterful color reflections in green and red on the woman's face. The painting leaves a deep impression, the paint is applied quickly and haphazardly, thin in some places and thick in others, the color palette is broad and soft. The delicacy and precision that characterize the rendering of the face contrast with the coarse and rapid brushwork of the background.
