Description

Oskar Mulley, 1891 Klagenfurt – 1949 Garmisch KUFSTEIN Oil on cardboard. 45.5 x 35 cm. Indistinctly signed lower left and also signed, dated "1944" and titled "Abendstimmung / Kufstein" verso, as well as inscription of the place of origin "Garmisch". In a silver-plated frame. Depiction of the round tower of the fortress at Kufstein, which was first mentioned in a document in 1205, rendered in twilight, with roofs depicted in a broad style, the contours of which are sometimes sharply outlined against the clouds in the changing light moods; meadow and bushes in the foreground. The artist was an Austrian academic landscape painter and a graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna. He is one of the leading representatives of Tyrolean art of the interwar period (including Albin Egger-Lienz (1868-1926), Alfons Walde (1891-1959)). His Kufstein period is dominated by mountain motifs, which are always free of figures. His heroic landscapes with impasto application of paint in palette knife technique were highly appreciated from the mid-1920s onwards.(1400123) (13)
