NORWEGIAN SEASCAPE WITH MOUNTAIN PEAKS AND SAILING SHIP BY MOONLIGHT Oil on canvas. 38.5 x 60 cm. Signed and dated "1860" lower left. Baade was a colleague and friend of the German Romantics Caspar David Friedrich and Clausen Dahl. A drawing by Friedrich shows him at the easel around 1836/38. After studying at the Copenhagen Academy, he painted Norwegian landscapes before moving to Dresden. He worked as a court painter in Munich for 34 years. He became famous for his Norwegian seascapes by moonlight, whose romanticism can be seen in the spirit of Caspar David Friedrich. (1401332) (11)
