View over a stony bank onto a broad river running into the depths, over which a stone arched bridge leads. On the left, in the shade, the front of an Italian palazzo, in whose entrance door a woman waits for a visitor climbing the steps. On the right are several houses, some of which are nested together, and various staffage figures, while the bluish mountainous background with a city silhouette under a high sky can be seen in the middle of the picture.
