BATTLE IN A VILLAGE Oil on wood. 40.5 x 53.5 cm. Monogrammed and dated lower center "J. DS. 1655". In baroque shaped frame. The multi-figure battle scene depicts a fight between mounted soldiers and simple villagers, some of whom are armed with pitchforks and defending their possessions. The scene is set on a village street that narrows in perspective. (1370691) (19)
