THE CONVERSION OF PAUL Oil on wood. Parquetry. 43 x 32 cm. In gilded Louis XV-style frame. Saul is depicted at the moment when he experiences his proverbial Damascus experience: he is blinded by the light of heaven and falls "from his high horse". Contrary to popular belief, Saul did not renounce Paul's name even after the Damascus experience and continued to use both his Jewish and Roman names (Acts chapter 13, verse 9: "But Saul, who is also called Paul...").
