THE HOLY FAMILY Oil on canvas. Doubled. 75 x 89 cm. In decorative frame. Against a dark background, the three-quarter portrait of Mary in a blue and red robe with a headdress, gazing lovingly out of the picture with her shining eyes. With her right hand, she holds the almost naked boy Jesus standing on a slab, who is looking downwards, probably to grasp his mother's left hand with his left. To the right of Mary, with a full beard and blue-brown clothing, Joseph can be seen in a moving posture with a strong facial expression. The light falls almost completely on the child and Mary from the top left, while only a bright part of Joseph's face is illuminated. A vertical fold mark between Mary and Joseph suggests that the painting was also shown in a reduced size. Sporadic retouching. (14008921) (18)
