Flämischer Maler des ausgehenden 17. Jahrhunderts

RETURN FROM THE HUNT Oil on canvas. 122 x 173 cm. In decorative, partially gilded frame. In the center of the painting a hunter with a shouldered stick from which hang two hares he has shot on the hunt. In front of him are two of his dogs and another black and white spotted dog, which is trying to sniff at a basket full of light and dark grape bunches, apples and peaches held by a young woman crouching in the foreground. As she gazes at the hunter, he looks down suspiciously at the basket. In the background on the left is a river and on the opposite bank three towers of a city under a high gray sky. Painting in predominantly restrained colors, only the figures emphasized by white clothing, the dogs by white fur and the fruit by bright colors. Rest, backing on verso, isolated anobia holes.
