PORTRAIT OF DOGE MICHAEL II Oil on canvas. Doubled. 62 x 53 cm The sitter's name inscribed "MICHAEL II" upper left, the family coat of arms "Vitale II Michiel" upper right. In decorative, partially gilded frame. Against a dark background, the half portrait of the Doge of Venice (in office 1155-1172) with a valuable headdress, red robe and an ermine cloak with golden buttons. He has a full beard and his dark eyes look out of the picture with dignity. Partly restored, partly retouched. (14008932) (18)
