Toskanischer Maler des 17. Jahrhunderts THE ELEVATION OF THE CROSS Oil on wood. 52 x 45 cm. In partially gilded frame. The depiction of the Exaltation of the Cross, rich in figures, against a nocturnal background. Several men are trying to pull up the cross with Jesus hanging from it with ropes. On the right in the foreground is a thief, probably with the two others condemned to crucifixion, behind him two mounted soldiers and a standard and a red flag, each with the emblem of ancient Rome "SPQR", as well as a man removing the ladder to the cross. Several angels in the sky top left. Dynamic, rather unusual depiction of the Exaltation of Jesus on the Cross. (14006810) (3) (18)
