Rombout van Troyen, 1605 Amterdam – 1650 THE VISION OF THE PROPHET EZEKIEL Oil on wood. 47 x 71 cm. Signed lower left. Unframed. Old Testament scene in camaieu brown with a hilly landscape with temple buildings integrated into it near an open body of water. The depiction refers to the biblical passage Ezekiel 37:1-14, which reports that Ezekiel (may God strengthen) is said to have seen the glory of God or had a vision of a divine throne chariot. Ezekiel was a priest who was deported to Babylon with the first exile in 597 BC and worked there from 593 to around 571. (1400831) (13)
