Description
Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, 1864 Albi – 1901 Schloss Malromé, Art des
THE ABSINTHE FAIRY Oil on canvas. 45.5 x 33 cm. Tilted female head in profile turned slightly to the left. The hat with its green feather ornament plays around the head and leaves the view half free to the green, indeterminate background. The dominant eyeshadow suggests the closed eyes and thus the momentary quality in which the painter presumably sought to capture a bar visitor on canvas. The painting is also reminiscent of Toulouse Lautrec himself, who had himself photographed dressed as a woman around 1890. Canvas with stamp of the Parisian paint manufacturer Frederic Petit on the verso. In an ornamentally decorated partially gilded frame. Provenance: Private ownership, Munich. (1400145) (13)
