Description
Willem de Klerk, 1800 – 1876 TREED LANDSCAPE WITH THATCHED HOUSES AND CHURCH TOWER Oil on canvas. 56.5 x 71.5 cm. Signed lower center. The forest path along which a couple is walking leads the viewer into the picture. The group of houses crouched under the trees, on the left a view into the expanse of the landscape. De Klerk was a pupil of Adrianus van der Koogh and undertook several study trips from Holland to Saxony and Bohemia. This is probably one of his memories of impressions. The similarity between his style and that of Barend Cornelis Koekkoek is striking. A.R. (14012412) (11)
