ROMAN-POMPEIAN GENRE SCENE WITH PEACOCK Oil on canvas. Doubled. 49 x 77 cm. Signed and inscribed "E. Forti Roma" lower right. In decorative gilt frame. In the magnificent courtyard of a Roman house with a mosaic floor and a large fountain, two young, elegantly dressed women with valuable jewelry. One of them appears to be feeding a couple of pigeons, while the other is trying to feed a peacock with a beaten wheel. Note: Forti, about whom we know little except that he was already active before 1900 and exhibited in Berlin in 1893 and 1897, as well as showing his paintings at the Mostra della Romana Societá degli Amatori e Cultori in 1905, mainly produced historicizing paintings that referenced Roman antiquity and depicted everyday life at the time.
