YOUNG ALGERIAN TAMBOURINE PLAYER Oil on canvas. 71 x 56 cm. Signed "Ch. Landelle" and dated "1905" lower right. In magnificent carved frame. Against a dark background, facing slightly to the right, the three-quarter portrait of a young woman in a blue dress with a white transparent blouse, holding her tambourine in her left hand. Her dress is embroidered with gold thread on the collar and decorated with fabric flowers on the sleeves. She has black, loose hair held together by a red scarf. Her face and hands are almost childishly delicate and her dark brown eyes gaze attentively out of the picture. Fine, high-quality painting with strong contrasts of light and dark. (14014830) (19)
