THE BIRD BUILDER Oil on canvas. 62 x 38 cm. Signed lower right. In wide frame with ornamental relief. In front of a window embrasure, in which an open empty birdcage with an orientalizing dome stands, a young woman in a pensive gesture with a dusky pink dress in front of a niche with a scalloped end clad with orientalizing tiles. The artist was a French Orientalist genre painter. He began his studies in The Hague and continued at the Academy of Fine Arts in Paris. He mainly created portraits and genre paintings from the oriental milieu.(14014834) (13)
