Fernand Léger, 1881 Argentan/ Orne – 1955 Gif-sur-Yvette PROJET POUR UNE COMPOSITION MURALE Gouache on paper. Sheet size: 26 x 36.5 cm. Monogrammed and dated "F.L. 54" lower right. Framed behind glass. Accompanied by a notice of inclusion of the present work in the artist's catalog raisonné in preparation under no. FL-2022-01-000323 by the Comité Léger, Paris, January 27, 2022, signed by Nicolas Thénier, President of the Comité Léger, in copy. Fernand Léger was a French painter, sculptor, graphic artist, ceramicist and film director. His early work is associated with Cubism, and he was particularly influenced by Picasso and Georges Braque. From the 1920s onwards, he increasingly integrated figurative elements into his paintings. In 1937, some of his paintings were confiscated from museums as "degenerate art". His late work had an influence on American Pop Art artists such as Roy Lichtenstein.
