Description

Francesco Zuccarelli, 1702 Pitigliano/ Toskana – 1788 Florenz

Pair of paintings LANDSCAPES BY THE RIVER WITH HERDERS AND THEIR ANIMALS Oil on canvas. Doubled. 55 x 72 cm and 55 x 72.5 cm. In a gilded magnificent frame. Accompanied by an expertise by Dario Succi, Gorizia, in copy. In the center of one painting is a rectangular stone fountain with a stream of water running into the basin, with a shepherd and his animals to the side. He is in conversation with a woman seated at the bottom left with a small child. In the background on the right is a view of a river and the town behind it in front of a mountain range. The other painting shows a horseman on a riverbank, seen from behind, with a cow with a light-colored coat and a calf beside him. A shaggy little dog, probably also belonging to him, is barking at a woman and her young son, who are sitting under a tree on the right and are probably on a journey with their luggage. The river runs centrally towards the horizon and on its left side a woman and a southern town can be seen in the background under a high blue horizon.
