PARIS PRESENTS VENUS WITH THE GOLDEN APPLE Gouache on vellum. Visible dimensions: 26 x 18 cm. Behind glass, probably in original frame. In a wide hilly landscape, in front of two tall trees, Paris sitting on a blue cloth, handing the golden apple to the goddess Venus standing next to him with a long white cloth. At her feet is the small winged Cupid with a quiver slung around his neck, pointing to the goddess of love and beauty with an outstretched left arm, his gaze directed out of the picture towards the viewer. A fine, high-quality depiction of the judgment of Paris, one of the most famous episodes in Greek mythology. (1401539) (18)

A mythological tapestry, second half of the 17th century, probably from the Marche's workshops The dynamic play of postures and the twirling character of drapery and hair convey the lively pace of the race and the joy of triumph. The apple, proudly displayed by the goddess, heralds the golden apple offered by Paris.
