Venezianischer Maler des 18. Jahrhunderts

Pair of paintingsVENEDIGVEDUTEN Oil on canvas. Doubled. 59 x 73 cm. In gilded frames decorated in relief. The church of San Geremia stands at the point where the Cannaregio joins the Grand Canal. The first church was founded in the 11th century by Mauro Tosello and his son, who kept an arm of St. Bartholomew in it, which they brought back from Apulia in 1043. However, the building we see today from the Grand Canal is more recent, dating from 1753 - a design by Carlo Corbellini. And the façade that we see today from the Cannaregio was not completed until 1861. In other words, long after the painting on offer here was created. The Campanile, on the other hand, is one of the oldest buildings in Venice and is a relic of the original building complex from the 12th century, which can be seen in the present painting, even though the octagonal top is insignificantly younger - in any case, this can also be dated before 1500. The other painting by the same artist shows another canal mouth in the Grand Canal with rich gondola and figure staffage as well as several church towers.
