MANKIND IN EXPECTATION OF THE LAST JUDGMENT Oil on canvas. Doubled. 115 x 142 cm. With old numbering verso. In ebonized profile frame. There is an engraving by Sadeler of the painting which is assumed to be the model. In contrast to paintings that follow the laterally reversed depiction of the engraving, the painter of the present painting conveys the laterally correct composition based on the original painting. As both the buildings in the background vary and the rainbow below Christ is missing, it is reasonable to assume that this is a work from the workshop of Dirck Barendsz.
