Pseudo-Jan van Kessel d. J., zugeschrieben Notional name for a painter of the late 16th and early 17th century, to whom more than two hundred mostly small-format still lifes are attributed. STILL LIFE WITH GAME, FRUIT AND VEGETABLES Oil on copper plate. 16 x 22 cm. With old typographic numbering on verso. In matted, partially boned frame. Against a brown background, lying on the ground, a shot young roebuck, a dove, various other birds as well as three heads of cauliflower and a bunch of onions. On the right, lying on a stone slab, are pumpkins, an artichoke and radishes. In the background is a large woven basket with several bunches of grapes and bright red-green apples protruding from it. The picture is enlivened by a flying cabbage white butterfly and a small dragonfly. (14014711) (13)
