Meiffren Comte, 1630 – um 1705, zugeschrieben

STILL LIFE ALLEGORY "TRIUMPH OF MUSIC" Oil on canvas. 62 x 74 cm. The foreground of the painting depicts three magnificent vases in relief on a stone, alongside a wooden flute and a sheet of music. The vase on the right, standing upright in coral red, is prominently highlighted. The compositional balance is provided by a stone relief block shown in a falling posture. The middle vase shows musical instruments in relief next to a youth and a velum. The pictorial theme of the relief can be interpreted as an allegory: While the stone relief on the left depicts Vulcan's weapon forge and the stone is shown in a falling posture, the upright red vase shows the triumph of the music-making putto over Chronos, the god of time. The sheet of music is reproduced in finely legible script. (14014714) (11) Meiffren Comte, 1630 - ca. 1705, attributed STILL LIFE - ALLEGORY "TRIUMPH OF MUSIC" Oil on canvas. 62 x 74 cm.
