Bartholomäus Sarburgh, geb. um 1590 PORTRAIT OF NIKLAUS LOMBACH (1583 - 1665) Oil on wood. 66 x 50 cm. In wooden frame with details of the sitter's age and the date of creation in the upper margin "Aetat; 66. Anno. 1648". The half-length portrait slightly to the right against a dark background, the sitter in a black robe with a long row of buttons and a large white ruff. He has shiny gray hair, a full beard, a fine face with slightly reddened cheeks and with his shining brownish eyes he looks out of the picture with dignity. High-quality painting with a realistic-looking face. Provenance: Rümlingen Castle, Switzerland. Annotation: Niklaus Lombach was a member of the Bernese patrician Lombach family, who had held the town charter since around 1450.
