Römischer Caravaggist des 17. Jahrhunderts SCOURGING OF CHRIST Oil on canvas. Doubled. 177 x 132 cm. Unframed. In front of a dark background, the stone-grey, luminous, twisted and curved figure of the bound Jesus Christ with a white loincloth, tracing an edged spiral in space. His tormentors are arranged around him, some with portrait-like faces. A Deposition from the Cross motif attributed to Palma il Giovane, which is stylistically very comparable, was offered in these rooms on June 21, 2021 under lot 282. Literature: Cf.
