In the coloring, which is adapted from a Chiaros Scuro woodcut, the half-figure depiction of the tormented Christ with mocking scepter, cloak and crown of thorns. His head is surrounded by a bright glow and a double halo. The strongly graphic conception leads to the conclusion that the painter may have based his depiction on graphic models such as the Ecce Homo woodcuts by Albrecht Dürer.
