STILL LIFE WITH BIRDS AND BUTTERFLIES Oil on wood. 15 x 20.5 cm. Accompanied by an expertise by Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Jan de Maere, Rambrouch, April 17, 2024, who attributes the painting to the above-mentioned artist, in copy. On a beige-brown ground, several branches reaching upwards, on which various birds, some of them colorful, can be seen against a blue sky background. On the ground between the branches are four large birds that have been shot, in front of which several butterflies and a dragonfly can be seen. According to De Maere, the present painting is based on a composition by Frans Snyders (1579-1657) entitled "The Concert of Birds" and on works by the Van Kessel family. The present painting reminds him of a signed painting (now in a private collection) by the artist, both in its style, which imitates Van Kessel, and in its execution and brushwork.
