PORTRAIT OF AN ELEGANT LADY Oil on wood, one narrow strut. 95 x 73 cm. In a magnificent frame. Against a dark background, facing slightly to the right, the three-quarter portrait of a young woman in a white dress embroidered with red damask, holding a handkerchief with a precious gold border with grapes in her left hand and gloves and a small book with poems or prayers in her right hand. The large collar is trimmed with gold thread, the white embroidered satin sleeves have a very fine pattern of small flowers and geometric figures. She also wears rich pearl, coral and gold jewelry. Her hair is carefully pinned up, held in place by white ribbons and a double string of pearls, and she has a high forehead with shaved temples in keeping with the fashion of the time. Her face and neck are almost childishly delicate and her dark brown eyes look out of the picture attentively. Fine, high-quality painting with strong contrasts of light and dark.
